Logic vs. Emotion

In the human mind, it’s is not unusual that we encounter conflicts between our logic and emotions. At such instances why is it so difficult and sometimes frustrating to come to a conclusion? Does it always seem that these two aspects of thinking can never agree with each other? Well…yes and no. Yes, it is impossible for logical and emotional aspects of thinking to be always seeing eye to eye. That’s the exact functionality of their existence in our thinking process. On the other hand, the reason that we always face a dilemma between the two is because they are meant to work hand in hand. As much of an irony as it may seem, this is exactly how the human mind works. The brain is meant to process both logical and emotional information most of the time. Nevertheless, the balance can weigh slightly on either side with our personality and character differences.

Let us take the process of learning as a simple example. In a classroom setting where your teacher is giving a monotonous lecture at the front, rattling and babbling about a particular subject, it isn’t too difficult to lose focus and allow out minds to wander off else where. However if we have an extremely jovial and interesting teacher loading the lessons with humor and spice, it would no doubt be easier to focus and absorb the contents of the lecture. Therefore logical aspects of the lesson( typically all the technical blah blahs) would not get in to us if it goes alone without the company of any emotional element( your jokes and stuff).

Here is another more interesting example for us to look into.

I’m pretty sure many of us have attempted this kind of test, where you try to say the colours and not pay attention to the words. It seems rather simple but really tickles with your concentration as you go along. In this test the logic-function of our mind processes the words and the emotion-function does so for the colours.  The reason that we find it so challenging to only concentrate on the colour is due to the fact that our brain was never meant to process solely either logical or emotional information.

With a better appreciation of how our mind works I hope you find this useful and take advantage of such understandings to improve yourselves in any way possible.

2008 F1 Singapore Gand Prix

Last weekend saw my dad and I spending our evenings at the Marina Bay circuit. The atmosphere was absolutely electrifying and the sound of the engines revving to their limits was super loud and shiok man.  Lots of F1 fans(like duh), foreigners, long queues at every F&B store and awesome weather. It’s really a good thing the track is at Marina Bay, cos in between events I could actually go over to the seaside to chill and get some fresh air. On Sunday 8pm when the actual race started everyone stood up and cheered like hell. And when Massa’s Ferrari  was stuck at the pit exit with the fuel rig still attached all McLaren fans became brothers. No kidding. All McLaren supporters were like exchanging handshakes and punching the air. I joined in too, since I was wearing a Mercedes-Benz shirt. Haha…It was most certainly a fantastic weekend at the track with lots of drama. A big THANK YOU going out to my dad for getting those tickets.

I decided to take less pictures and enjoy the race since all I had was a compact ixus70. Shall let those guys with the DSLRs and their humongous lenses take care of the pictures =)

Dayang Dive Trip

Last Friday saw me leaving in a van from Tanjong Pagar with Wei Jun and the rest of the dive group for Mersing in the evening. Arrived at the jetty at about midnight for another 3hr ferry ride(which btw was super rough) to Pulau Dayang. The journey was a little tiring, but at the end of the trip it sure was worth it. To sum up the entire experience…simply awesome! In terms of diving, I won’t say that the waters were extremely fantastic or anything. But definitely nowhere near bad as you can see from the pictures. The dive group was pretty cheerful which made the whole trip all the more enjoyable. Did a total of 6 dives including my first night dive which wasn’t as fascinating as I hoped. At least got to see cuttlefish. Haha. Highlight was definitely the deep dive at Rayner’s Rock where I saw 4 Giant Bumphead fishes! It was like twice the size of my Divemaster yo. Btw she’s quite small size. Lol…but a really nice person. I did like 5 of 6 dives with her during the trip. Simply enjoyable.

Here’s a little preview….

You can catch the rest at my Facebook =)
Next trip would be to Tioman on 17 Oct!

Another Forex Milestone

It has been a little more than 4 months since i embarked on my little Forex journey(or at least it started out little), which now seems to have painted an even clearer picture of its potential. In short, it’s extreme. Sometimes to the point where I even feel a little afraid. It’s no joke yo. I’m not just realizing the potential. I’m actually feeling it when I trade and look at the numbers, even thought it’s just paper trade.  With such massive leverage, it’s extremely important to have your emotions under control. That’s my no.1 rule. And that’s my no.1 advice to anyone who is even thinking about trading, regardless of the instruments you are using.

My Forex learning curve seems to have been cut short by about a month due to the crazy volatility which has given me more learning opportunities. 100% ROI over a period of 2 months was achieved way ahead of target(chill yo, bear in mind I’m paper trading). Again thanks to volatility of the market. After much thought, I have decided not to publicly display my account summary as proof of my achievements, for the sake of remaining as reserved as possible given my level of experience. However I would gladly show them to anyone upon request =) I expect to open my live account some time end of the month.

Well…it seems that there are many good things coming my way. Or perhaps me heading towards many good things. Either way, a happy man. A great deal of things to look forward to. Check it out yo.

-Dayang dive trip this weekend
-F1 Singapore GP next weekend
-”something” the week after. It’s private, but definitely worth mentioning for those who know what it is. lol…
-Perhaps a Tioman dive trip mid October?
-loads of “off & leave” to clear
-ORD this November
-Melbourne next Feb!

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.

Morale Is Low

It’s been rather sucky at flight recently. Most of the guys look all gloomy almost every other day. Get ready now, here’s where the bitching starts. The flight got only 1 day off as an incentive for working like dogs to get the decorations in the whole of Tengah ready for the RSAF 40th anniversary. The management apparently isn’t very appreciative of the effort put in by the guys. I mean there were guys who were slogging it out in the sun for about 2 weeks, including the weekends. I believe we deserve a little more than 1 day. Anyways what I told the guys and our team IC makes a whole lot more sense now. They gave us a clear message of what the flight is really worth. This goes to show why all the senior techs can’t wait to leave the force. I personally think that the “system” has nothing to do with this but rather the people at the management level, for the system is f**ktub but so are some of the management. Frankly speaking I don’t feel pissed or anything, but disappointed and rather sorry for the guys who still have some time to go until their ORD.
I’m not as down as the others simply because I’m left with exactly 2 months =) I’m all ready to commence my disappearing act for the unworthy flight. Off to Dayang next weekend!

Let the ORD mood begin yo!

RSAF 40th Anniversary

There’s quite a lot to bitch about this event man. It started out with my squadron being in-charge of the entire decorations around my air base for this event. Came back on Sunday to attempt to finish as much as possible before the Chief of Air Force’s vetting. That joker is so boring man. Requests for blue flags for the entire air base. Anyways the hero (“me” of cos, lol) ended up having to operate this silly piece of equipment called the sizzor lift for the entire of every joke day that we were putting up the decorations. With that, a couple of my friends started calling me professor X (like skin-headed dude from X-men) cos they saw me driving it around all day. Haha, it’s sad man. Interesting thing is that the sizzor lift broke down on the friday, which was the last day that we were finishing up with the decor. Hehe…

Here’s an image to give you a better idea of what a sizzor lift is.

So enough bitching about the 40th Anniversary. Oh yes, I forgot to mention that it’s on 28th August, followed by the RSAF open house on 30-31st at Paya Lebar Airbase. I think there might be a short display by the Black Knights, so you guys can go if you’re into that.

I can’t believe it…I’m simply left with less than 3 months to go before ORD!! The string of off/leave and overseas trips shall commence. It’s starts with Pulau Dayang on 19 Sept!

Another TIRED Monday

I have finally found the time to blog about something to keep my blog from rusting. Well…I’ve been rather busy lately. Not so much on improving myself and stuff, but just meeting up with friends, the occasional swims at almost every swimming complex in the North-east area. And well…making some extra bucks. =)

I have noticed that I tend to be especially tired at camp on Mondays. Well…it’s no surprise of cause. I mean all it takes is a day off from work to totally screw up my biological clock. That dumbass Shaun managed to get the entire day off for just telling Enchik Joe(our flight Warrant Officer) that he had to help his mum apply her credit card. Haha…It’s crazy man. Kinda ridiculous aye. But yea, I think Enchik Joe is going through a rough time with his wife in hospital and in critical condition. She’s suffering from some illness related to the brain and currently on life support and in a coma. I heard the doctor has already given up and the chances of her gaining consciousness is pretty low. So I guess giving Shaun a day off would be the last thing on his mind. I really do hope things go well for Enchik Joe and his family. That day at the spec mess he was saying he was already mentally prepared. I really feel for him man…cause he’s a good guy. The feeling must really suck…to be prepared to let go of someone so close and dear. Seriously do wish all the best for him and his family.

To Enchik Joe & Family:
Wishing that each day brings you renewed strength, brighter times, and a healthier, happier you.

Gay Attack @ Chomp Chomp

It was 3+am on Saturday night at Chomp Chomp and I was having a good chat with Sherman(Melbourne house-mate) after supper. We were sitting at the wooden benches at the open space outside when we noticed this guy loitering around us. He took a sit at the bench behind Sherman before he gathered enough courage to approach us. He came between us and asked, “Do you think it’s difficult to be gay?” Sherman and I were like wtf man… Lol, seriously. I could tell he wasn’t very sober from the look in his eyes. Then Sherman was like, “Dude, we’re trying to have a conversation here, so if you don’t mind….” He homo guy just mumbled some shit and walked away. He returned to the same bench he was sitting at before and it’s didn’t take long for him to come back to us. This time he took a sit beside Sherman and placed his hand on Sherman’s shoulder. Before he could say anything Sherman shrugged his hand off and stood up. From there we both left and walked outside where the taxis were waiting and continued to chat for awhile. We saw the homo board a taxi and we were thinking about the poor cab driver. Haha, I wonder if the homo guy tried to get his way with the cab driver or something. So yea, that was our experience with some drunkard gay at Chomp Chomp. A pity I don’t have any pictures to show, but don’t ever take your parents’ advice for granted when they tell you not to stay out too late. Haha…

Cheers!

Gratitude

I was reading this book called “The Secret” some time back. Really good book, by the way. I don’t particularly agree with everything in such motivational books but they often do provide excellent and interesting perspectives that few of us notice. Anyways back to the topic. There was a small part in the book which talked about gratitude. Lately, much of the learnings from the part on gratitude back then has somehow got me thinking about it more. I don’t know whether it’s the recently earthquake in china, the people that I have been speaking to, the awesomely cool Burberry coat that my Dad got me, or it’s just me getting more matured. lol. But wait… I’m already so matured right. haha, Just kidding. I’m 19 and have a good deal of growing up ahead. I do believe it’s pretty much all of those combined. It’s not just about the book’s emphasis on the importance of gratitude in your life. But when I take a step back and have a good look at all the things that I have in life, I can’t help but feel thankful.

A little something that you can give a try. When you wake up in the morning dragging yourself out of bed to the toilet to wash up and go about getting ready for the day ahead, think of at least 10 things or more that you can feel thankful/grateful for. Be it the people around you, the things that you have or the opportunities that you have been given. If you can keep this up for a good whole week I do believe there’s a good chance that your days will start off feeling the slightest bit better at least. And trust me, you do not need to repeat a single thing that you are grateful for. It’s important that you really feel and believe that you are fortunate to have what you have. If you just think of those 10 things for the sake of it there’s really no point in attempting this exercise. But seriously, keep it going for a week and feel free to feedback to me if it does help at all. =)

Now, with all the talk about gratitude and so on, I have decided to devote some time to the children’s home just behind my house. It’s the least I could do until I leave for Melbourne next Feb =) I have also decided to focus on Forex more than other stuff now. Which also means less going out with clients and more time in front of the computer screen.

Check out my workstation. =)

A step closer to Financial Freedom

Okay, before you actually read further, I must first warn you that whatever I’m going to talk about has 97% to do with Forex, aka foriegn exchange or currency for those who’ve got no idea. So if you get the feeling that the following is going to bore you, all you have to know is that I’m pretty successful so far with my mini venture into Forex trading and I’m going to be a very rich man, hopefully. =)

I’m absolutely delighted to announce that I have managed to surpass 100% returns over a period of 2 months in the testing of my trading methods with the practice account, courtesy of ac-markets.com. All of which only involved virtual money of cos, but still… it’s a great achievement for me.Started out with 50k USD and hit my high of 103k USD on 3rd of July after my speculation on the huge drop of the EUR/USD. On the other hand, my practice account was terminated on the exact date that I exceeded the 100k mark with all the records of my trades. It’s is only a 30 day trial with another 30 day extension. So there goes my 2 month trial of paper trading. I’m looking to refine my techniques for at least the next 2-3 months or so before pumping in some cash to make some bucks. So any investors who are interested to make some good money can always park some cash with this very promising Forex trader in the making. =D
